PLEASE research your Gas Piping Contractor before you hire!
I am going to go on a little rant here as an advocate for my customers…I am tired of seeing people being taken advantage of by some hack handy man claiming to be a Gas Piping Contractor. I’ve been in the gas piping and gas plumbing industry in Clark County WA and the Portland Metro for the last 16 years.
I have been able to build a successful gas piping and ventilation business on the basic principle; do the job right, the first time, for a fair price, treat our customers and employees with respect. I’m passionate about giving our customers what they need and what they’ve paid for. The problem I’m seeing more and more in our industry is on the residential installation of gas lines. There has been a noticeable increase in our business of reinstalling and replacing gas lines.
Common errors like gas lines that have not been installed to code, been installed without the proper permits, or installed with subpar materials. Plain and simple this creates hazardous, unsafe situations by unlicensed or unqualified gas piping contractors. This is a serious problem on two main levels. #1: the sheer magnitude of the potential hazards and unsafe situations associate with subpar work. #2: customers should have the job done right the first time and not have to pay twice to get the work done correctly. J & M Services has had invoices to customers ranging from $500 to $10,000 to fix or reinstall gas lines that an unlicensed or unqualified gas piping contractor has previously installed.

A little research goes a long way when choosing a Gas Piping Contractor
This article is not in effort to get business, this article is to educate you, the consumer. Before you go with the guy that says “yeah I can install that gas line” or the lowest possible bid you can get to install your gas line CHECK credentials of the company or the person. Not only do gas piping contractors need to be licensed by the Registrar of Contractors with a plumbing or specialty gas piping license, they also should be certified and trained in the type of material they are installing at your property. It also helps if gas pipe installations are the majority of the type of work the business does and not a “Jack of all Trades” type of business. Make sure the contractor pulls a permit. Ask questions and do your homework before you make your decision to hire a gas piping contractor.
J&M Services prides itself on being a very specialized company, I’m personally a certified master gas piper. We hope that you will give us a chance to earn your business. If you should choose another company PLEASE make sure you’ve done your due diligence about the them. The long-term gain is worth the minimal extra effort it will take to research a company or person before you hire them to work on your property. You deserve to spend your hard-earned money on a job well done, not on a shoddy job completed by an under qualified contractor.
